Missy's Rainbow Wall Art

Email share

Hi friends! It’s me, Missy! I’m back with another fun craft project for you. During the month of June, we celebrate Pride Month. Pride is a time to celebrate who you really are and be proud of that. It’s also a time to celebrate others and love those around you. A symbol of Pride month is a rainbow, so I thought it would be fun to make a rainbow craft.

Supplies

  • 5 different colors of yarn
  • ½” white cotton rope (I could only find small rope, so I put three together to make one bigger rope)
  • Scissors
  • Liquid glue
  • Floral wire
  • Wire cutters
  • Ruler

Instructions

  1. Use your ruler and wire cutters to measure and cut 5 lengths of wire: 10”, 11.5”, 13”, 14.5” and 16”.
  2. Use your ruler and scissors to measure and cut 5 lengths of rope: 18”, 19.5”, 21”, 22.5” and 24”.
  3. Take the 18” rope and lay the 10” wire on top of it, leaving 4” of rope on each side. Use a small amount of glue to keep the wire in place.
  4. Take one color of yarn and tie it around the rope and wire, near the end of the wire.
  5. Start wrapping the yarn around and around the wire and rope. Tuck in the tail and wrap over the top of it.
  6. Keep wrapping until you get to the other end of the wire. Tie another knot. And use your scissors to cut a short tail.
  7. Repeat step 3-6 for the:
    • 19.5” rope and 11.5” wire and second yarn color
    • 21” rope and 13” wire and third yarn color
    • 22.5” rope and 14.5” wire and fourth yarn color
    • 24” rope and 16” wire and fifth yarn color
  8. You have created 5 stripes of a rainbow. Now bend each one, starting with the shortest, into a half circle shape. They should fit one on above each other in a row like a rainbow.
  9. Tie all the tails together on one side of the rainbow, in the back.
  10. Use your glue to conceal the tails and glue the stripes together on both bottom edges of the rainbow colors.
  11. Frey the ropes by untwisting and separating the strands. Use your scissors to even up the ends if necessary.
  12. Now you can hang your rainbow on your wall or bedroom door (using tape, a nail or a wall hanger).

Wrap Up

Rainbows are always a happy, loving sight. I hope seeing this one hanging in your house will remind you to not be afraid to be yourself, even if that is different than others around you. Have a happy Pride Month, have fun and be creative!
