Hey hey! My name is Missy. I’m an artist, a guest blogger and a plant lover! With Spring right around the corner, I thought it would be fun to do a project where we can get our hands dirty and appreciate nature.

Supplies

  • 4-inch plastic garden pots with drainage holes
  • Soil
  • Hand shovel or spoon

  1. Use your hand shovel (or spoon) to fill a pot with dirt, leaving about half an inch of space at the top.
  2. Poke your finger about an inch down into the middle of the soil.
  3. Pour a little water into the hole and let it seep down through the soil.
  4. Drop one pea seed into the hole.
  5. Cover the seed with more soil.
  6. Pour water all over the soil, be gentle so it doesn’t unearth the seed.
  7. Set the pot out on a window sill.
  8. Water once per day.
  9. In 4-7 days you should see a tiny little plant emerge from the soil.
  10. Keep watering each day.
  11. Once your pea plant gets about 4 inches tall, it will be ready to go outside. Plant it in the garden or a large pot.
  12. You can build a little trellis for the plant to grow on by angling 3 long sticks toward each other and tying them with string at the top. Or get a pre-made wire trellis for the peas to climb.
  13. In a couple months, you will have some delicious peas to eat raw or cook!

Wrap Up

I love to plant peas because they sprout so quickly and you can plant them so early in the year. Plant a bunch of seeds so you have many plants. You can even share your harvest of peas with your friends! Have fun and happy Spring!
