Missy's Masking Art

Email share

Hello! My name is Missy. I’m an artist and a guest blogger at PBS KIDS Utah. Spring is here and colors are starting to pop all around! I thought we could use the bright pinks, greens and yellows of spring as inspiration for a fun, colorful project.

Supplies

Filer image
  • White cardstock or watercolor paper
  • Washi tape
  • Markers

Instructions

  1. Unwrap strips of washi tape and lay them across your paper.
  2. Do this over and over with tape going this way and that.
  3. There will be white shapes left between the tape. Use your markers to color all the white spaces.
  4. Now carefully remove the tape.

Wrap Up

The tape has “masked” parts of your paper, leaving white stripes. You can try this project with different colors. You can also scale up and try this project on a canvas with paint. Be creative and have fun!
