Missy's Luminaries

Email share

Hello! My name is Missy. I'm an artist and guest blogger here at PBS Utah. October is here! And with it comes my favorite holiday: Halloween! There are so many fun things you can create to decorate your house. Luminaries are one of them. Here's how to make them.

Supplies

  • Paper lunch bags
  • Battery powered tea light candles
  • Pencil
  • Sharp scissors

Instructions

  1. Use your pencil to draw a jack-o-lantern face on your bag.
  2. Open your bag.
  3. Use your scissors to poke a hole in the middle of the eye and carefully cut out the eye shape so there’s a hole into the bag in the shape of the eye you drew.
  4. Repeat for each of the eyes, nose, mouth, etc.
  5. Turn on your tea light candle and put it into the bag.
  6. Turn off the lights and enjoy!

Wrap Up

These types of luminaries are often used to line walkways, lighting the way for trick-or-treaters. So make a bunch of them and put them outside. Be creative and have fun!
