Missy's Bubble Letters

Email share

Howdy! My name is Missy. I’m an artist and blogger for PBS Utah. Something fun that I like to do is create different ways to write my ABCs. This is called creating a “hand drawn font.” One hand drawn font I bet you’ve seen before is bubble letters. I am going to teach you how to write/draw in bubble letters.

  1. Use your black marker to write every letter of the alphabet on a sheet of paper.
  2. Use your pencil and draw a shape around each letter, leaving just a little space between your line and the black marker of the original letter. I call this space a “halo.”
  3. If there is a “hole” in the letter, like in the letter A or O or P, draw a small shape inside that hole too, using the “halo” method.
  4. Now place a second sheet of paper on top of your alphabet.
  5. Use the marker to trace just the halos around the original letters. Now you have a Bubble Letter Alphabet.
  6. Use your Bubble Letter Alphabet as a reference sheet. Take a third sheet of paper and write your name in Bubble Letters.
  7. Color your name in with crayons.

Wrap Up

Practice writing your name, your friends names, your family’s names, different words, anything! Be creative and have fun!
