Missy's Blob Animals

Email share

Hey, hey! Artist and guest blogger Missy here again with a new art project. I love animals. And I love to draw and paint animals. One very fun way to create animal art is with blobs of paint. Here’s how.

Supplies

Filer image
  • Watercolor paint
  • Paint brush
  • Cup of water
  • Paper (thicker paper is better)
  • Pencil
  • Colored pencils
  • Markers
  • Colored pens
  • A white marker/chalk pencil

Instructions

  1. Wet your paintbrush in your water cup and put drops in the colors of paint you want to use.
  2. Load your brush with paint and make a small random blob on your paper.
  3. Repeat this a few more times, you can switch colors, too (remember to rinse your brush in the water between colors).
  4. Let your blobs dry.
  5. Stare at each blob shape and imagine an animal. If you need to, turn the paper around to see the blob from a different angle.
  6. Once you decide on an animal, use your pencil to roughly sketch the features of the animal on the blob: arms, legs, head, eyes, tail, etc.
  7. Now use your colored pencils, markers and pens to define the animals’ features.
  8. Repeat for each blob.

Wrap Up

This technique usually results in some silly animals. And that’s definitely okay! Have fun and be creative!
