Have you had a chance to watch Rosie's Rules yet? Allow me to introduce you to Rosie, whose debut appropriately corresponds with Hispanic Heritage Month. Rosie Fuentes is an inquisitive, hilarious, 5-year-old Mexican-American girl just beginning to learn about the wow-mazing world beyond her blended family walls. Rosie’s endless curiosity sets the stage for grand ideas and fun adventures to learn more about her family and community, and the answers she finds become “Rosie’s Rules.”
Rosie herself will be visiting the Salt Lake City Public Library Main Branch on Saturday October 29th from 10AM-1PM. She'll be bringing friends Daniel Tiger and Katerina Cat as well! Wear costumes, get curious, and prepare to Dive Into Reading with the 30th Annual Reading Marathon.
We asked people in our "neighborhood" what they do to celebrate their Hispanic Heritage and this is what they had to say:
Andrea Karlinsky, PBS Utah Staff
"Spending time as a family making tradition Mexican dishes. That's how we celebrate."
Nilsen Reyes, PBS Utah Staff
"I honor my Hispanic Heritage by continuing to support many wonderful SLC-based Hispanic/Latinx businesses.
My family honors Hispanic Heritage Month by hosting a weekend “carne asada,” a backyard barbecue with delicious food and Spanish-language music where we gather to celebrate our country’s Independence Day. "
Utah Resident
"This is a tough question. Live life I guess. I eat Peruvian food, but to me, it's just... food. Lol. I listen to Spanish music, but to me, it's just.... music. It's a surprisingly difficult question because I think just living life is celebrating the heritage."
All of us have a beautiful story to tell and celebrate. How do you celebrate yours? Let us know!
