Hi everyone! My name is Missy. I’m an artist, a blogger for PBS KIDS Utah and a football fan! One of the best things about Fall is football season. Whether you like to watch college sports or professional sports or even high school sports, it’s a fun time of year. I’ve always seen these foam fingers for sale at stadiums and thought, “I could make one of those.” Well, I did! And I’m going to teach you how to make one too.
Supplies:
- 2 pieces recycled packing foam (craft foam will work too)
- Scissors
- Marker
- Hot glue gun with glue (or liquid glue)
- Spray paint
- Craft paint
- Scrap paper
- Paint brush
Instructions:
- Lay your foam flat on the table and use your marker to trace around your hand, but 2 inches away from your hand.
- When you come to your pointer finger, extend the line up in a big hump. This will make it look like you are signing “Number 1” or pointing to the sky.
- Use your scissors to cut out your hand outline.
- Use this first cutout as a guide and trace it on the second piece of foam.
- Cut out the second hand tracing.
- Warm up your hot glue gun. Glue towards the edge of the hand. Leave the bottom open so you can fit your hand inside. Let it dry.
- Take your foam finger outside. Lay it on some scrap paper. Spray paint the finger on both sides, letting it dry in between.
- Take your foam finger back inside. Use your craft paint and paint brush to paint your team’s mascot, team name, “#1” or anything you like.
Wrap-up:
Now you are ready to cheer on your favorite team, whether you are watching on tv at home or watching in person at a stadium. Go team! Be creative and have fun!
