Happy New Year! It’s artist and blogger, Missy, here again with a fun arts and crafts project. I was looking out my window as it was snowing these last few days, and I thought how fun it would be if there were penguins in my yard to enjoy all the snow. I decided to make some penguins out of recycled egg cartons. Here’s how!
Supplies:
- Recycled paper egg carton
- Black craft paint
- Paintbrush
- Recycled lid (something to use as a paint palette)
- White and orange construction/scrapbook paper
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Liquid glue
- Googly eyes
Instructions:
- Use your scissors to cut the egg carton apart. You won’t need the lid. Cut it up so each “cup” is separated. Flip the “cups” upside-down. These are your penguins. If they don’t sit evenly, you can trim the bottom.
- Squeeze some paint onto your palette and use your paintbrush to paint each penguin black. Let them dry.
- Use your pencil to draw some long ovals on the orange paper (one for each penguin). These will be the penguins’ feet. Cut them out, then cut each oval in half.
- Use your pencil to draw some half circles on the white paper (one for each penguin). These will be the penguins’ bellies. Cut them out.
- Use your pencil to draw some triangles on the orange paper (one for each penguin). These will be the penguins’ beaks. Cut them out.
- Glue the orange feet, flat side out, to the bottom of each penguin.
- Glue the white belly, flat side down, to the front of each penguin.
- Glue the orange triangle, flat side up, just above/overlapping the white belly.
- Glue two googly eyes to each penguin, just above and to either side of the beak.
- Let all the glue dry.
Wrap-Up:
Now you have a bunch of little penguin guys to play with! Look how cute they are! Each one is probably a little bit different and that’s ok. Just like people, it’s the little differences that make them special. Have fun and be creative!
